Making A Difference,
One Pair Of Shoes At A Time
To the Editor:
I am proud to announce that our final number is 10,019 pairs of shoes collected for the recent Soles4Souls collection. The truck is full without room for even one more box and on its way to New Jersey. Brian Molloy and my hubby Pat are making their second and final delivery as we speak. I must thank the following as none of this would have been possible without the support of so many.
First and foremost the residents of our wonderful town for the awesome contribution of shoes! No doubt Newtown has some of the cleanest closets entering summer! Ha-ha!
Maria Roy, my dearest friend, for encouraging me to take on this big project and working endless hours to ensure its success. Also Thomas Haynes, Haynes Materials, for doing a company/customerwide shoe drive within our drive. Carol Zimmerman contributed so much of her time and shared her many contacts to include Trinity Episcopal church. Thank you Carol.
The Newtown Bee and Shannon Hicks for getting the word out to the Newtown residents, not just once but numerous times! We couldnât have done this without you!
Brian Molloy for donating his time and truck for two deliveries to New Jersey along with my husband Pat for loading and unloading 500 cases of shoes!
Darlene Damico with Curtis Packaging who donated all of the boxes! Wow! What would we have done without them?!
Kathy June and Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson for allowing the Newtown schools to participate and be drop areas for the shoes, as well as Susan Sonati with Masonicare of Newtown and Dorrie Carolan with Newtown Youth Academy.
Thanks to all that volunteered their time tying shoes together and boxing them up.
Pat and I will be in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday and meeting the entire Soles4Souls team! I look forward to learning more about the organization and seeing what more I can do for them. I hope to keep Newtown involved with this amazing organization for years to come.
Great things can be accomplished when people come together! We are making a difference one pair at a time and saving our landfills! Thank you Newtown!
Sincerely,
Pam McLaughlin
