Roving Patrolsâ
Police Expanding DUI Enforcement
For Holiday Weekend
Town police will increase their enforcement of drunken driving laws during the Memorial Day Weekend holiday period from Thursday, May 24, through Monday, May 28, according to Patrol Sergeant John Cole.
Starting on May 24, police will use âroving patrolsâ within town that will travel through the area seeking out drunken drivers, the sergeant said. The roving patrols will be in use throughout the five-day holiday period.
Federal grant money will cover 75 percent of the overtime costs for those roving patrols.
The high-visibility patrols are intended to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities caused by drunken driving, according to police.
Police publicize such DUI enforcement projects to deter drivers from driving while intoxicated.
Sgt Cole said that motorists traveling on local roads who show the vehicular signs of being intoxicated from alcohol and/or drugs will be stopped for police investigations.
