Brian Cheney To Perform At Marian Anderson Studio, Sunday Afternoon
DANBURY â David Katz and Hat City Music Theater, in cooperation with Danbury Museum and CityCenter Danbury, will continue their series of professional vocal artists in concert at Danbury Music Centre with âThe Two Tenorsâ on Sunday, May 21.
Internationally acclaimed Metropolitan Opera star (and Grammy Award winner) Jerry Hadley is one of two special guests. He will introduce his protégé, tenor Brian Cheney, a returning Hat City Music Theater artist and popular audience favorite. Mr Cheney will then present a special recital of spring selections, including music by Vaughan Williams, Bellini, Hahn and Richard Strauss, accompanied by pianist Jonathan Faiman. (Mr Hadley himself is not scheduled to perform.)
The program will be performed twice, at 2 pm and again at 5 pm, in the intimate studio on the Danbury Museum campus, 43 Main Street.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and are available by calling Hat City Music Theater at 746-2694, or online at BrownPaperTickets.com. Dinner and show packages, in collaboration with Ciao Cafe and Wine Bar, are just $28 each. Advanced reservations are required. Patrons may dine before or after the performance of their choice, and Hat City Music Theater will make dinner reservations.
Brian Cheney was most recently heard in Danbury as a soloist in Hat City Music Theaterâs sold out performances of Broadway Tonight in March. With his winning stage presence and powerful voice, Mr Cheney delighted audiences with renditions of such Broadway classics as âMariaâ and âSit Down Youâre Rocking the Boat.â
A 2002 winner of Hat City Music Theaterâs own international competition, the Friedrich Schorr Memorial Performance Prize in Voice, Mr Cheneyâs classical skills will be on display as audiences experience his music-making in the intimate studio where the great contralto (and Danbury resident) Marian Anderson herself sang.
