*CINEMA will make its debut performance on Wednesday, May 30, at Newtown High School. The band’s sound is reflective of 70s style classic and progressive rock; members have been influenced by groups ranging from The Beatles and Crosby, Stills & Nash to Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Rush and Led Zeppelin.

Incorporating full vocal harmonies and catchy melodies along with accomplished musicianship, Cinema has managed to capture the best qualities of these styles to create its own unique sound.

Wednesday night’s performance will begin at 7:30. Admission is $5 per person, and proceeds will be donated to the Greg Chion Scholarship Fund. Under the Rose will perform an opening set.

“The concert is very important to us,” Cinema band member Corky Ballard said this week, “but it will not overshadow that this is to raise funds for Greg Chion’s Scholarship Fund. The band is Hawleyville-based and when Greg passed away last year we were all saddened.”

Formed in 1998 in western Connecticut, Cinema recently recorded its first album, entitled Universal Language. The band’s line-up is Mr Ballard on bass guitar and lead vocals; John Clancy, drums, percussion and vocals; Jim Filgate, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals; Roger Filgate, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar and vocals; and Steve Negri.

*A reminder that the always-wonderful ADRIAN LEGG is the latest big catch for Acoustic Café in Bridgeport. Legg continues to tour in support of his 1999 Red House Records release, fingers and thumbs and will be at the café on Saturday, May 26, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are just $15 for this, and I would call ahead for a reservation considering the status of Legg and the size of the venue (smallish). The café is at 2926 Fairfield Avenue and can be reached by calling 203-335-3655.

Adrian Legg is one of the coolest, most intelligent and talented people I have ever met. Get to his show early and stay to the end. He’ll have you alternating between laughing and watching his performance in awe from start to finish.

*“Walk Down Abbey Road,” which was mentioned last week as coming to the Oakdale Theatre on July 22, will also be at Mohegan Sun Casino one week earlier.

*THE B.B. KING BLUES FESTIVAL is returning to the state this summer. This year’s line-up includes KING, BUDDY GUY, JOHN HIATT and TOMMY CASTRO. The festival will roll into Wallingford for a show on August 29 at the Oakdale, and then move over to Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville the following night.

KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, who plays the Oakdale this weekend (May 25, tickets are still availbale), will also be back in the state later this summer. Shepherd has a show scheduled for July 28 at Mohegan Sun Casino.

*The JERRY CANTRELL show at The Webster Theater that had to be postponed last week after Cantrell hurt his arm has been rescheduled for July 14.

*And finally this week, some news for Foxwoods Casino’s Fox Theater. THE WALLFLOWERS will make their debut at the Uncasville venue on July 17, movie star DENNIS QUAID and his band THE SHARKS will be there on July 18, CHICAGO plays July 26, STYX is there on August 31, and REO SPEEDWAGON plays September 7. For Foxwoods tickets and information call 800-200-2882.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you... on the road, enjoying the long weekend! See you next week.
