Update: The semifinal match will be held Monday, May 24, at 5 pm when Newtown hosts Masuk.

Newtown High School’s boys’ volleyball team is seeded second in the South-West Conference tournament and will host the winner of No. 3 Masuk of Monroe and No. 6 Oxford in the Monday, May 24, semifinals.

The Nighthawks defeated Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-7) on May 12. Aidan Stout had 11 kills, six aces, and five digs; Matt Mattera logged seven kills, five aces, and four digs; Brandon Akbas registered three kills, four aces, and two blocks; and Thad Teraszkiewicz had four kills, a trio of aces, 15 digs, and two blocks.

Newtown defeated Pomperaug of Southbury 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) on May 14. Mattera had nine kills, two aces, and four digs; Stout picked up nine kills, four aces, and six digs; and Jasin Kodzodziku had kills, three aces, and two digs.

Against Masuk on May 17, Newtown fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-19). Kodzodziku logged six kills and one dig; Stout had six kills, an ace, and five digs; and Akbas, Mattera, and Hannan each had four kills.

Newtown finished the regular season with a record of 11-5.
