Health Empowerment
DERBY â Griffin Hospital has announced its latest series of Health Empowerment Sessions. Evening talks on Laparoscopic Hernia Repair, Problem Wounds, The Digestive System, and EECP or Enhanced External Counterpulsation for those who suffer with chest pain, run May 31 through June 26. All programs are free and will take place at Griffin Hospital. Registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome. The presentations will be delivered by physicians with expertise in the topic.
The schedule is:Â
Thursday, May 31, 7 pm, Laparoscopic Hernia Repair â An Innovative Approach! presented by Doctors Guy Nicastri and Leland Soto, who are among only a few in the region experienced in laparoscopic hernia repair.
Wednesday, June 6, 7 pm, Problem Wounds â A Healing Experience, presented by Dr Kenneth Dobuler, medical director for the Comprehensive Wound Healing Center and one of fewer than 250 physicians in the nation board certified in undersea and hyperbaric medicine.
Wednesday, June 13, 2 pm, Get Help for Hip Pain!, featuring Gary R. Richo, PhD, one of several board certified orthopedists on the Griffin staff who comprise a select group specially trained in minimally invasive joint replacement techniques.
Thursday, June 14, 7 pm, The Digestive System, from Top to Bottom! featuring Doctors Sidney Bogardis, Jr, Jeffrey T. Dreznick, and Harold M. Schwartz. This team of board certified gastroenterologists will be on hand to discuss how the esophagus, stomach, intestines, and colon work together in a properly functioning digestive system and such conditions as acid reflux, indigestion, colitis and cancer can develop, and what can be done to prevent and treat these conditions.
Tuesday, June 26, 7 pm. Dr Kenneth Schwartz, board certified cardiologist and medical director of Griffin Hospital, will talk with anyone experiencing chronic stable angina who wants to explore alternatives to bypass surgery or angioplasty. The alternative procedure, Enhanced External Counterpulsation or EECP, is a nonsurgical, medical treatment for persons with cardiovascular disease who still have chest pain, even after surgery. EECP can reduce or eliminate this pain. Griffin is the only hospital in Connecticut to offer this treatment.
