Banner Award Honoree
Alan Hurst, immediate past Rotary District Governor of Southern Connecticut, visited Newtown Rotary earlier this month to present an awards banner signifying that 100 percent of the members have contributed to the Rotary Foundation this year.
There are 63 Rotary Clubs in District 7980 (the lower four counties of Connecticut), and only three clubs have received this award. This is the forth year that Newtown Rotary has received this award.
There are more than 32,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide and all of them contribute to The Rotary Foundation each year to enable great projects to be chosen and completed.
In 1985, Rotary announced its would eliminate polio from the face of the earth by 2005. They were immediately joined by the World Health Organization and other organizations. The project is more than 99 percent complete with only four countries still not declared polio-free.
