Singing Praises

To the Editor:

The Newtown Choral Society played to a crowded house when they presented their spring concert, John Rutter’s “The Wind in the Willows” and Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana,” Sunday at The Meeting House.

As always, our success came with the help and expertise of many people. We continue to enjoy the direction of Mary Andreotta, who challenges us every season to conquer new music while also building on past successes. Todd Gorski, our accompanist, consistently adds to our musical prowess while contributing his good humor.

We thank Sherry Paisley and The Heritage Preservation Trust of Newtown, Inc, for preserving such a music friendly venue.

We would also like to thank Shannon Hicks and The Newtown Bee and Sybil Blau and the News-Times for their support.

This season we welcomed back John McMahon, a past member, in a speaking part. We thank Sarah and Ellen McMahon for being our ticket takers. We also thank Miracle Graphics of Bethel for their tremendous contribution in designing and printing our program. As a nice coincidence, Miracle Graphics is owned by Sara Gallo, a Newtown High School graduate. Thanks also go to our page-turner, Tyler Adams, and Deborra and Charles Zukowski for welcoming the choir so graciously for our after concert get-together.

Finally, we must thank my husband, Kenneth. As usual, Kenneth lent his computer expertise, his patience, and his muscle wherever it was needed.

The Newtown Choral Society, which is in its 21st year, will begin rehearsals for its Holiday Concert in September. Under the direction of Mary Andreotta, we welcome new members and require only that new members have a love of singing and a willingness to learn. Call me at 426-3769 if you would like to discuss joining the Newtown Choral Society.
