The Last Day

Of School

To the Editor,

As a result of the damaging storm on Wednesday, May 16, the Newtown schools were closed on Thursday and Friday. It is my understanding that these two days will be added onto the school year. This pushes the last day of school to Monday, June 25. I would like to appeal to the Board of Education (and am hoping other parents will do the same) to change the final day of school to Friday, June 22. All Parks & Recreation camps start on Monday, June 25. Will Parks & Recreation have to issue a refund for that one day?

I believe all grades must be in by Friday, June 15, so adding a half day on Monday, June 22 will have no affect on grading. It seems like a wasted half day of school to me and that the teachers would probably prefer to have that day to themselves to do their end of year organizing.
