CodeRed Clarifications

To the Editor:

In the May 17 edition of The Bee, there was a letter to the editor titled “The Inappropriate Use of CodeRed.” We as members of the emergency management team need to clarify this issue.

The CodeRed system is used for emergency management health/safety issues only. Only selected people have authorization to launch a CodeRed notification, and Dr Robinson is not an authorized user. Your emergency management team judicially uses CodeRed so that it is not misused. The number that will appear on caller ID when you receive an Emergency CodeRed notification is 866-419-5000; if it is a nonemergency message, which we very rarely use, the number displayed will be 855-969-4636. We encourage you once the number displays you change the ID to show CodeRed on your phones.

Again, the CodeRed system is used only for emergency notification to our residents by the emergency management team — emergency services and public health. Only authorized users of the system are allowed to launch a CodeRed notification. If you have any questions regarding CodeRed and its use, feel free to contact the emergency management director/fire marshal at 203-270-4370; the deputy emergency management director/public health director at 203-270-4291; or the communications directory/deputy emergency management director at 203-270-4296.

Sincerely,

Bill Halstead

Emergency Management Director/Fire Marshal
