Good Government Listens To People
Good Government
Listens To People
To the Editor:
We are rapidly evolving into a town that is becoming accustomed to bad government. I can accurately state this fact, because reason tells us that, in a democracy, good government listens to the people.
Placating ($200,000 reduction) is not listening to the voters. The majority said No â Period! The council has insulted the intelligence of the citizens of Newtown.
There is something far worse going on here than the possibility of a few underfunded programs. Newtowners are being given âshort shiftâ again with this budget.
It seems to me, that if the student enrollment is going down, shouldnât the education budget at least be flat?
Now for certain, the voters of Newtown must know (regardless of whether they voted Yes or No) in their hearts that some of the people we place in positions of power are attending to their own needs and private agendas ahead of the people who trusted them.
They are not alone as we learned from a Newtown Bee letter to the editor that targeted Dr Robinsonâs misuse of the âCodeRedâ emergency notification system to remind parents to vote at the referendum. What will her excuses be this time?
People of Newtown, you canât make this up â what we do about it remains to be seen.
Respectfully,
Patricia A. Bailey
