John T. âTomâ Anderson, 83, of Cobleskil, N.Y., previously of Ames, N.Y., died May 15. Mr Anderson was born July 1, 1928, in Newtown, a son of Olga (Lejon) and Aaron Anderson.
His wife Barbara (McGurn) Anderson; five children, Karen Anderson, Charles Anderson, Nancy Thompson and husband David, Patricia Treleaven and husband Wayne, and Ruth Haugh and husband Thomas; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter survive Mr Anderson.
He was educated in Connecticut and enlisted in the US Army in 1946, serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1948. He was a member of the Newtown Hook & Ladder Company, where he volunteered at age 16 until moving to Ames in 1976.
While living in Connecticut, he did welding and fabrication for various people and companies. He later operated a service station in Ames where he also did welding, fabrication, and small engine repair from 1976 to 2003.
Mr Anderson was active in the Ames Volunteer Fire Department, serving as its chief, and was mayor of Ames for many years. He was a member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church.
Funeral services took place May 19. Burial was in the Ames Cemetery.
