Join Save The Lake Day, June 2
Friends of Lake Lillinonah is again planning its annual Save the Lake Day for Saturday, June 2. Volunteers should gather at the Route 133 boat ramp in Bridgewater at 9 am to join in a trash cleanup along the lakeâs shore.
Gloves, garbage bags, and boat rides to collection areas will be provided. Friends of The Lake members are also seeking volunteers with boats. The event runs until 1 pm, when refreshments and pizza will be served.
âThis lake can become even more beautiful with everyoneâs help,â states a recent press release. Volunteers unable to attend the June 2 cleanup can still pitch in by collecting garbage along private shorelines and leaving it in enclosed trash bags on private docks that morning for pickup.
Friends of The Lake is a volunteer organization working to reduce debris and pollution in Lake Lillinonah, and currently includes more than 125 members. The group works with local, state, and federal agencies and other environmental organizations.
The group has sponsored the annual Save the Lake Day for ten years, launched an automatic data collection buoy that constantly measures and reports a large range of water quality information, and initiated community events. An annual members-only anniversary party welcome guest speakers including Senator Richard Blumenthal, CT DEEP Commissioner Daniel Esty, plus a variety of lake and water quality scientists and senior officers from FirstLight Power Resources.
