Newtown Choral Society presented its spring concert, “Soar: a concert celebrating freedom, resilience, realization, and beauty,” last weekend at Newtown Meeting House.

The performance was directed by Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Phil Crevier and several additional musicians. An appreciative audience, who nearly filled all available seats, filled the room for the program of works by Lennon & McCartney, Andre Thomas, John Rutter, spirituals, and musical interpretations of the poetry of Langston Hughes and Walt Whitman.

The performance was extremely well received by the guests who shared comments including, “What beautiful voices,” “I loved the selection. It was so uplifting,” and “The music was a terrific blending of traditional and newer pieces. Overall, it was outstanding.”

Per Society President Laura Lerman, “Those of us who love to sing, in groups or for an audience of one, will also tell you that music fills our souls and our hearts. And so, we hope that the music we sing tonight will give you the same joy of listening that we get from singing it.”

A non-audition group that welcomes members from all area towns, Newtown Choral Society has been entertaining audiences since 1986.
