What is your favorite memory of Memorial Day? Asked at the Senior Center.
Peggy Skillings: âWe used to have big picnics. All my aunts and uncles would come up from White Plains.â
Bea Piskura: âGrowing up in Bethel, our school system had an essay contest. The winner would march in the parade and then read the essay. We ended with a hike and a picnic.â
Harriet Ford: âWe always hired the pavilion at Macedonia Park in Kent and have a big family gathering. We would picnic and have a lot of fun.â
Dorothy Bartlett: âWe would collect our pennies to donate for wreathes that would be placed along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx to honor the World War I vets.â
Abe Kramer: âI liked visiting the cemetery to honor the soldiers. I served with the British in World War II in Africa and Italy.â
Dorothy Bresson: âWe always had a picnic at my house. The whole family would come, all my brothers and sisters. There were eight of us.â
