To the Editor:

I write to thank Newtown Hook & Ladder and the Newtown Lions Club for helping last Saturday to raise the large summer flag that now proudly waves over the Borough from our Main Street flagpole.

The Lions generously pay for the summer flag, which traditionally is raised the weekend before Memorial Day, and we could not do it without the help of the volunteer firefighters from Hook & Ladder.

I cannot let this opportunity pass without personally thanking Mike Sorrentino, owner of Newtown Hardware, who donates the two winter flags that fly on the flagpole between October and May. Mike has always been a proud supporter of the flag program, even discounting the summer flag that the Lions purchase.

The next time you see Mike please thank him for his generosity. Like everything else these days flags have gotten very expensive, but Mike remains steadfast in his commitment to Newtown, the Borough, and, most importantly, the flagpole.
