The 2026 Friends of Newtown Seniors Membership Meeting will be conducted Thursday, June 11, at 5 pm, at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street.

The event is open to Newtown residents age 55 and over.

This year’s event will not only include FONS’s annual report, there will also be a pig roast-style picnic for dinner featuring everything from collard greens, corn bread, and mac & cheese to hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, dessert, and drinks.

There will also be a performance by Rocking Roosters Square Dance Club. This is the first year, FONS Board Member Beverly Bennett Schaedler pointed out May 18, the event will include entertainment. She and other organizers are hoping many residents accept the invitation to join the event, enjoy dinner, and learn about the all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Newtown seniors through advocacy, education, programs, and critically important services.

"We're looking for new people to join us, to hear about our mission, what we do, and maybe help with future projects and events," Bennett Schaedler told The Newtown Bee last week. "There is no commitment, however. If you want to just join us for dinner, we'd love to see you."

Tickets are $25 per person, and available by calling 203-430-0633 or online at fonsevent.org.

Reservations are required no later than June 4.
