Coffee & Donuts For Travelers,

All Weekend

Boy Scout Troop 370 will operate its Memorial Day Coffee Stop, a tradition more than a quarter of a century old, this weekend. Travelers will find troop members at the corner of Church Hill Road and Edmond Road beginning 4 pm Friday, May 27, and continuing nonstop until 6 pm Monday, May 30.

The annual coffee stop is one of the Newtown troop’s major community service projects.

Boy Scouts will serve hundreds of cups of coffee, plus hot tea, lemonade, iced tea, water, and baked goods such as doughnuts, pastries, bagels and more.

Local merchants, along with the town of Newtown, make it possible for the scouts to hold this event through their generous support. Among those donating to the cause this year are Newtown Parks & Recreation, Fairfield County Fish & Game, Blue Colony Diner, Pizza Palace, Caraluzzi’s, Costco, Stop & Shop, Stew Leonard’s, The Inn at Newtown, Andrea’s Bakery, Dunkin’ Donuts, Doughnut Inn, Bagel Delight, and Big Y Supermarket.

Each scout volunteers for a four-hour shift, along with a parent volunteer, during the long weekend. Many of the scouts take on multiple shifts to ensure there is adequate coverage each day and night. It is a team effort that gives scouts a sense of pride in helping the community, say the organizers.
