Wayne C. Person of Newtown passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, after a short illness, with family by his side.

Wayne was born in Bridgeport on October 3, 1939, to Carl Person and Helen Simpson Person. The family resided in Trumbull. He was a 1957 graduate of Bassick High School in Bridgeport, and after graduation studied engineering at Bridgeport University. He met his future wife Joan Wadell in Trumbull through his sister Carlyn. Wayne and Joan were married in 1959 and spent 62 years happily married and living in Newtown.

Wayne was a mechanical engineer and a longtime employee of US Surgical Corporation in North Haven that specialized in the manufacturing and distribution of medical devices and equipment. He was awarded five patents for various types of suture staple guns during his time working there.

As a young man Wayne enjoyed playing the saxophone and was a lifelong music lover. Another of his passions was golfing and he was a member of Newtown Country Club for many years. He and Joan also enjoyed traveling and took many trips to South Carolina. He was a big sports fan and especially liked the Yankees. Joan was a Red Sox fan, which made for lively baseball viewing at home. His children joked that they came from a broken home. Wayne spent a lot of his time taking care of the home and property he loved and was an enthusiastic do-it-yourselfer.

Wayne cared deeply for his family and encouraged them to follow his example by working hard and following their dreams and passions. He believed that if your career was one you loved, you never worked a day in your life and you were sure to be successful and happy.

Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 2021, daughter Pamela Scott in 2011, and sister Carlyn Matysiewicz in 1995. He will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Jeffrey McClellan of China, Maine; son Darren Person of Venice, Calif.; grandsons Matthew and Ryan McClellan, and granddaughter Tanya Scott.
