Still Wears Kamala T-Shirt

To the Editor:

I still wear my Kamala T-shirt. I am very aware she did not win the presidential election last November. But it is, first of all, a super comfortable shirt —that’s a hard thing to toss aside!

Secondly, though, and most importantly, I am not ashamed to admit that I voted for sanity over insanity; kindness over cruelty; compassion over narcissism; love over hate; unity over division; trust over fear; diversity over nationalism; rule of law over corruption; honesty over fraud; hope over despair; progress over stagnation; gratitude over greediness; respect over bullying.

Must I go on?

We are in the hands of a dangerous administration that has hog-tied Congress and every day is taking a bite out of the very things that have made America great: civil liberties, voting rights, legal representation, higher education, scientific strides in health, climate, and industry, and a global reputation for fairness and pursuit of liberty for all.

We must continue to let representatives know that Americans — even some who voted the current administration into office — want them to uphold the laws of the land and put service to country and their constituents first and foremost in all they do.

We have just celebrated Memorial Day, a day to honor the men and women who have served in the armed services and died to ensure these rights, that these important tenets of our Constitution are upheld here and worldwide. Every day that we continue to allow the despot in the White House to run roughshod over the Constitution he swore to uphold, who is moving toward a dictatorship with himself at the head, who is without a doubt the most manipulative, corrupt president to hold this office, the lives lost and put on the line for our country every day are dishonored.

I still wear my Kamala T-shirt and I will until Congress decides to do its job, until the highest office of this land is held by a president who understands she/he is a leader for all Americans and all who would call our country home, and who wisely considers the needs of our country instead of personal glorification.

Protest if you can. Write to your representatives. Vote whenever you can because America doesn’t have to be “great again,” but rather, better than ever.
