The Genealogy Club of Newtown will hold the final meeting of the 2024-25 year on Wednesday, June 11, at 7 pm via Zoom. Longtime club member Marian Wood will present “Free Resources for New York Genealogical Research.”

Upstate, downstate, all around the Empire state, Wood will show guests how to discover, or rediscover, free resources for investigating ancestors’ lives and family history context. Step by step, she will demonstrate how to navigate no-fee websites with many updated links to New York area digitized county histories, digitized vital records, state census records, old newspapers, county/local history experts, and more.

Wood has been researching her family tree since 1998, with an eye toward preserving family history for the future. She was born in the Bronx and transplanted to New England. Wood is the author of the genealogy book, Planning a Future for Your Family’s Past, and a long-time blogger about family history (ClimbingMyFamilyTree.blogspot.com). The Genealogy Club of Newtown is one of her “home clubs.”

Visitors are welcome. To receive the Zoom link to the meeting, send an email including name, address, phone number, and email address to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com by June 8. The invitation and link will be sent on June 9 or 10. Those planning to attend are asked to join the meeting at 6:45 pm so that everyone can be admitted before the meeting begins promptly at 7 pm.

The club will launch its 2025-26 season on September 10.

Marian Wood will be the guest speaker at the final Genealogy Club of Newtown meeting of the season on June 11.
