Middle School PTA Celebrates Faculty For Teacher Appreciation Week
Newtown Middle School PTA celebrated the school’s faculty with several events for Teacher Appreciation Week, which ran May 5-9.
Celebrated on the first full week of May, Teacher Appreciation Week is a national holiday that honors educators for supporting their students.
It was another chance for the NMS PTA to treat the school’s staff and faculty to different events throughout the week.
They held a staff luncheon on Wednesday, May 7, with an assortment of dishes from salads, wraps, and cold antipasto to pasta, sliders, and empanadas lining the sides of the teachers’ lounge. Faculty could also help themselves to bottled water, sparkling water, and sodas, as well as sweet treats such as cookies and brownies.
Most of the food came courtesy of Dodgingtown Deli and Angelina’s, but some of it was also donated by NMS PTA members.
This was not the last time that NMS faculty could enjoy a special sweet treat in the teachers’ lounge. The school’s PTA set up a special Ferris Acres ice cream bar in the teachers’ lounge. NMS PTA members stood by with ice cream scoopers in hand and served flavors such as Route 302 Chocolate Moo, Sweet Cream, and Raspberry Sorbet for hungry faculty.
There were many different toppings available such as nuts, Oreos, M&Ms, sprinkles, and waffle cone pieces for people to add to their bowl.
Throughout Teacher Appreciation Week, faculty could also fill out raffle tickets for 19 different gift baskets. These gift baskets were set up by the NMS PTA and donated from local businesses and organizations. Faculty could cast their tickets for NMS-themed tumblers, gift cards, batches of chocolate, a mini espresso cocktail bar, and more.
The school’s administration also planned a breakfast for staff on Monday, May 5, as well as afternoon treats the following day, with the NMS Student Council treating faculty with food on Thursday, May 8.
NMS PTA Vice President Jessie Kenney said she was happy that the school’s faculty had a “whole week’s worth of treats,” with NMS PTA President Heymi Colon later adding this was the least everyone could do for them.
“They’re very deserving of a nice lunch and some awesome gift baskets,” Colon said. “They’ve worked hard all year long to teach our kids through their spirit, positivity, and dedication.”
