Historical Society’s Homes And Gardens Tour

Will Offer A Taste Of Newtown

Newtown Historical Society is inviting the public to spend time exploring some of Newtown’s finest homes and gardens this month.

On Saturday, June 23, the 2007 Historical Society House & Garden Tour will run from 11 am to 4:30 pm rain or shine. The tour this year includes seven houses and their magnificent gardens as well as two hidden gardens on Main Street. Also, the art and photography of seven local artists will be displayed in a lovely historic barn surrounded by gardens. Details about the homes, gardens and artwork will be offered in an upcoming issue of The Newtown Bee.

This is a self-guided tour. Tickets are $20 each and are limited to avoid overcrowding. Checks should be sent to Newtown Historical Society Tour, PO Box 189, Newtown CT 06470, before June 15. Be sure to include name, address and telephone number.

Tickets can also be obtained during regular library hours at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street; Drug Center Pharmacy, 61 Church Hill Road; and The Red Garage, 78 South Main Street.

If tickets are still available on the day of the tour, they can only be purchased between 10 am and 12:30 pm at the Matthew Curtiss House, 44 Main Street. Call 426-5937 for more information.

The proceeds from this tour benefit Newtown Historical Society. Funds are used to maintain the Matthew Curtiss House Museum (circa 1750) and to support the society’s education programs.
