TEXTILE MUSEUM’S CENTRAL ASIAN DAY FEATURES THREE SCHOLARS JUNE 30

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Textile Museum will present a program, “Central Asian Day,” on Saturday, June 30, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.

In celebration of the exhibition, “Architectural Textiles: Tent Bands of Central Asia,” three scholars will be featured in a day of textiles and travel.

At 10:30 am, a rug and textile appreciation session will focus on “Yurt Chic.” Richard Isaacson, exhibition curator and a textile collector, and Andy Weber, a former diplomat to Kazakhstan and also a textile collector, will lead a discussion of the history of the nomadic tent and a show-and-tell of items used to furnish it. Seating is limited. Free; no reservations required.

At 1:30 pm, a lecture and book signing: Unknown Sands: Journeys around the World’s Most Isolated Country. Author John Krop will shed insights into Turkemistan and its people, based on his firsthand experience from serving at the American embassy in that country. His book will be available for purchase from the museum shop. Free; no reservations required.
