Verdi's 'Nabucco' To Be Shown In Southbury
Verdiâs âNabuccoâ To Be Shown In Southbury
SOUTHBURY â The Southbury Senior Centerâs next âAfternoon at the Operaâ program will feature Verdiâs first great opera success, Nabucco. On Wednesday, June 13, at 1 pm, in the auditorium of Pomperaug Woods, a performance of the opera will be screened.
The performance was filmed in 1987 in Milanâs La Scala opera house, starring Renato Bruson and Ghena Dimitrova with the chorus and orchestra of La Scala, conducted by Riccardo Muti.
Nabucco firmly established Verdi as the voice of the Italian people and in particular âVa pensiero,â the great chorus of longing sung by the exiled Hebrews on the bank of the Euphrates.
The showing is open to the public and admission is free, with refreshments provided by Pomperaug Woods. Additional information is available by calling Carole Damon at Southbury Senior Center, 262-0651, or Becky Butler at Pomperaug Woods, 262-6557.
Pomperaug Woods is at 80 Heritage Road.
