More Ships Commit To OpSail2012

NEW LONDON (AP) — Organizers of the OpSail2012 tall ships festival have received commitments from five more vessels, including the schooner Amistad, which has been undergoing repairs in Mystic.

OpSail organizers tell The Day of New London that the Amistad will be joined by the Ticonderoga of Greenwich, Tyrone of Chatham, Mass., New Horizons of Boston and the sea scallop harvester Regulus of Stonington.

The festival takes place in New London July 6–9 as part of a national commemoration of the War of 1812’s 200th anniversary.

The parade of ships will be led by the Coast Guard barque Eagle and already included six other tall ships. More are expected to sign on in the coming weeks.
