Scores From The Softball Diamonds

Youth softball scores and highlights from this past week:

U6

Diamond Electrical Supply vs. Carminuccio’s: For Diamond Electrical Supply, Alexa Glynn, Tory Lewis, and Katie Daoust had great hits down the middle for a tremendous start to the game. Michaela Bonacci, Eleanor Glassman, and Sara Olam played great defense for Diamond. Alyssa Jones and Aidan Herbstman had great throws to first base to finish out the game.

U8

New England Bounce About 1, McCann Brothers 0: New England Bounce About moved to 5-1 thanks to solid fielding by Genevieve Kelly. Genny saved a run late in the game by covering the gap in right field and keeping a possible double to a single. Catherine Murphy and Paige Connor played solid in the field. The only run of the game was scored on a single by Joey Libero. McCann Brothers came out with a strong defensive effort, shutting down a potent New England Bounce About offensive with great plays coming from Jessica Eisele, Ella Schmitt, and Sarah Walsh-Herde. At the plate, Emily Hammond, Margaret Hurley, Emily Litke, and Emma Magazu all got hits and moved runners into scoring position.

Nuzzo Electric 5, McCann Brothers 2: Nuzzo Electric’s Melina Cummings had two hits and scored two runs, Lauren Haynes drove in two runs with a double. Ava Berry pitched well and Allison Pavlicek played well in the field. Emma Archiere had two singles and scored one run. McCann Brothers had strong pitching efforts from Vaughn Keeney, Shannon Kelleher, and Emma Magazu giving the Nuzzo Electric batters all they could handle to squeak out some runs on a hot afternoon. Jessica Eisele, Margaret Hurley, Lara McDougall, and Sarah Walsh-Herde had some great swings at the plate in addition to getting base hits.

Taunton Press 6, McCann Brothers 5: It was a battle of the bats with the Taunton Press Pink Panthers edging past the McCann Brothers in the final inning on Saturday. Nicole Fisher knocked a home run to right field in the top of the fourth to drive in the two winning runs. Morgan Melillo, Olivia Bonacci, Madelyn Twitchell, and Allison Hechler also had strong shows at the plate with two hits each. In the field Carol Ann Scinto and Sammy Vertucci combined for solid pitching. Jillian Clure and Julia Minchak played well defensively as well. For McCann Brothers, Emily Hammond, Vaughn Keeney, Emily Litke, Lara McDougall, and Shannon Kelleher all got hits and were able to move runners into scoring position, including the tying run on third in the bottom of the last inning. Jessica Eisele and Sarah Walsh-Herde contributed on defense by getting the ball in on deep shots to the outfield.

U10

Stone River Grille 3, Newtown Hardware 0: Stone River Grille took the win with a 3-0 game on Saturday against Newtown Hardware. Madison Hintze had an awesome play to Shanna Adam on first base for another fantastic demonstration of teamwork. Ally Tolson, Kali Rider, and Natalie Horn all scored runs this week. The unstoppable pitching efforts of Shanna Adam and Gracie Eurell combined for 11 strikeouts.

U12

McCann Brothers 8, Claim Services International 7: McCann Brothers rallied for five runs in the final inning to claim an 8-7 victory over Claim Services International. Claim Services’ Kaysie Fisher had a terrific game, recording two strikeouts and making a nice fielding play while pitching and also adding two singles while hitting. Briana Castellano hit a single for Claim Services and Elizabeth Maker, who made her pitching debut, added a run scoring single.

WellBaskets.com 10; Claim Services International 9: In a game with great defensive plays and clutch hitting, Claim Services International fell to WellBaskets.com, 10-9. For Wellbaskets.com, strong offense was provided by Nicki DaPra with two singles, Jackie Gouveia with a single and a double, as well as Kayla McClay and Madalynn Giglio with a single apiece. Defense was led by Kaelana Dauber at first base and Tegan Doherty who looked strong at both third base and on the mound. For Claim Services, Sarah Dowling had an outstanding game, catching four fly balls, pitching two innings, and knocking in two runs. Kaysie Fisher also pitched two strong innings, recording four strikeouts, and added an RBI. Also driving in runs were Alex Watson, Joy Metzger, Jadyn Ives, and Anna Johnston.

U14

John M Glover Agency Wild Thing 2, Sherman 7: On May 23, The Wild Thing fell to Sherman on what turned out to be a pitching duel. On offense, Tina Demaio and Kelsey Nicholson crossed the plate twice, while Skylar Kneski had an RBI. Annie Hoffman battled it out on the mound holding Sherman without a score in three of five innings, the game ended in a 7-2 loss for the Wild Thing.

Newtown Hawks 13, Monroe 12: Newtown hawks won their third game of the season against Monroe this past Sunday. They had a combined pitching effort by Jaclyn Moccio, Beth Savinelli, and Shanna Adam. They combined for seven strikeouts. We would like to thank our sponsor, CT Rebels of ‘76.

U12

Ridgefield Rebels 18, Newtown Hawks 6: The Hawks’ defense struggled in this tough game against the Ridgefield Rebels. Offense was led by Jenna Carvalho with a double and Abby Pereira, Cassidy Datin, and Cassidy Keller who all had base hits. In the end, Ridgefield’s strong bats prevailed and the Hawks lost 6 to 18.
