State police said that motorist Szilvia Nickerson, 42, of 42 Bennetts Bridge Road, Sandy Hook, was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV in the left lane of eastbound I-84, as motorist Ernest Footman, 42, of Waterbury was driving a 1995 Toyota Celica coupe in the left lane of westbound I-84.

The Toyota braked for traffic conditions and went into a skid, traveled across the grassy median and then collided with the Jeep, state police said.

Both drivers were treated and released from Danbury Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
