You Make The Call
You Make The Call
To the Editor:
As we prepare to trudge to the polls for a third time this spring, those of us who are fiscally sane need to hold the line for the rest of us who have been baffled by the, well, you know.
Sometime before Tuesday pick up the phone and call somebody â one of your neighbors, a business associate, someone from church who is likeminded. Remind them to get to the polls on Tuesday, June 5, and vote No. Remind them that there has been no cut in proposed spending after the second failed referendum. Remind them that in the last five years, while school spending has increased by $7 million, or 11 percent, enrollment has declined by 217 students, or 4 percent. Fewer students, $7 million more taxpayer dollars, now how does that add up? Remind them that their own money is being used to selectively get out the Yes vote through the schoolâs database and automated phone/robocall system. Remind them that in this kind of economy, with this kind of shrinking enrollment it is time to spend less, and tax less.
If we can produce 2,500 No votes on Tuesday, we will be unbeatable. This will not be difficult, but it will require that each of the 2,000 of us who voted No the last time enlist a few more. We are well on our way to the kind of standoff that can produce lower taxes.
Now letâs follow through and get the result!
