Youth Lacrosse Results

Recent youth lacrosse scores and highlights are as follows:

 

Senior Gold

Newtown Senior Gold 7, Bethel Senior Black 6: The Newtown U15 Senior Gold boy’s lacrosse team played a nail-biter on Wednesday night, May 23, at Treadwell against Bethel Senior Black. Newtown got off to a slow start, down by two goals at the end of the first quarter. One goal in the second was not enough to lessen the gap and by halftime, Newtown Senior Gold was behind with a score of 3-1. Although another goal was scored during the third quarter, the team found themselves further behind by the end, with a score of 5-2. Senior Gold did not give up and the team rallied in the fourth, coming out strong. Five goals were scored to secure the lead and defeat Bethel with a score of 7-6. Jared Pearson and Colin Smalkais each scored two goals and had one assist. Kris Whelan had one goal and one assist. Josh Headen and Nick Genovese had one goal apiece.

Newtown Senior Gold 6, New Fairfield 8 Red 4: The following evening, Newtown Senior Gold played New Fairfield 8 Red at Tilson. Mark Urso won 13 out of his 14 face-offs keeping the ball in Newtown’s possession. Jared Pearson led the goal scoring with three and Devin Luzietti, Shawn McCarthy, and Payton Manning each scored one. Kris Whelan and Nick Genovese had two assists apiece, while Steven Faxlanger and Andrew Svanda added one assist to their totals. The goaltending skills of Jeremy Salaris kept New Fairfield from scoring in the first quarter. By the half, Newtown was ahead 4-1. New Fairfield put up a good fight trying to keep the score close, but the defensive skills of Gordon Walsh, Charlie Fletcher, Christian Morlock, and Nick Samuelson stopped them from reaching the net and helped steer Newtown to its 6-4 victory.

Newtown Senior Gold 7, Cheshire Senior Black 2: For their third game in a row, Newtown hosted Cheshire Senior Black at Newtown High School’s Blue & Gold Stadium. It was a team effort with all players picking up at least one ground ball each. Newtown scored two goals in both the first and second quarters, leading with a score of 4-2 going into the third. Newtown Gold was able to pick up three more goals during the second half, while goaltenders Owen Gray and Jeremy Salaris kept Cheshire Black scoreless, stopping five shots from entering the net. Newtown’s goal scoring was led by Matt Meyers with two goals and one assist. Payton Manning, Andrew Svanda, and Devin Luzietti each contributed with one goal and one assist. Nick Genovese and Steven Faxlanger added one goal each. Defenseman Gordon Walsh and midfielder James Carney each had an assist, while the strong offensive play by David Anderson and James Accousti helped guide the team to its third win of the week.
