The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced the start of construction activities for the rehabilitation of Bridge 06693 (Pole Brook Bridge), located on I-84 westbound in Sandy Hook, beginning today, June 1, 2017. The project is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

The bridge is located under a section of I-84 West that runs parallel to Riverside Road, near Bancroft Road.

According to State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-106th): "Minimal impacts to I-84 traffic are anticipated. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak hours. A temporary shoulder or single lane closure during off-peak hours may be utilized for construction access. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity."

A permanent access road will be installed to allow access to the upstream section of the culvert below I-84 westbound. A rock weir will be installed at the downstream end of the culvert per CT DEEP Fisheries request.

The Pole Brook Bridge was built in 1973. It is comprised of a 7-foot diameter round asphalt coated corrugated metal pipe with mitered end treatments. The total length of the culvert is approximately 125 feet long.

The rehabilitation project aims to line the existing culvert with a 6-foot diameter corrugated heavy gauge aluminum pipe, and pressure grouting any voids. The grouted area between the existing and proposed pipelining will be beveled at the pipe inlet.
