Garner Inmate Arrested For Assaults

 State police said Garner Correctional Institution inmate Benjamine Torres, 21, became combative during a strip search at the prison on the afternoon of May 26 and spat in the faces of two male correction officers.

State police charged Torres with assault on a public safety officer. He was scheduled for court arraignment on May 30.

Torres is serving a six-year sentence in Garner on a third degree larceny conviction. Garner is a state high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, which opened in 1992.
