Hawleyville, Hook & Ladder Fire Co #1 and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue were dispatched to I-84 West around 6:30 last Friday morning for a truck fire. Upon arriving on the scene, just east of the Parmalee Hill Road overpass, firefighters found that the cab of a tractor-trailer truck was completely engulfed in flames. There was no extension to the truck's trailer, which contained a partial load of Coca-Cola products. The driver of the vehicle had been able to safely get out of the vehicle and was uninjured. Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halstead had initial command of the scene, which was handed over to Hook & Ladder 2nd Assistant Chief Joe Miller upon his arrival. Firefighters used water and foam to put out the fire, which caused traffic delays in the area for about two hours. (Bee Photo, Hicks)
