Botsford Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road and Botsford Hill Road about 5:27 pm on May 23.

The collision involved motorist Brian Bassett, 45, of Milford, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima, and motorist David Wishko, 67, of Monroe, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bassett a written warning for passing on the right.

Evading Responsibility

Police report a three-vehicle accident in which the unknown person who caused the incident left the scene and evaded responsibility at about 3:09 pm on May 25. The accident occurred on Main Street, near its intersection with Currituck Road.

Police said that a white box truck was traveling northward on Main Street, as a Ford pickup truck driven by a Seymour man was traveling southward. A Honda Civic driven by a Danbury man was traveling southward behind the Ford.

The box truck then crossed over the road's center line and entered the opposite lane, police said. The box truck then struck the Ford. Flying debris from that impact then struck the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police are investigating.

SUV Rollover

Police report that motorist Ronis Escobar, 27, of Bethel was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Old Mill Road, about 4:28 pm on May 24, when while negotiating a curve in the road to the left, the vehicle began sliding, lost traction and went out of control.

The SUV then traveled off the road, struck an embankment and overturned, police said. Escobar was not injured. Police said they issued Escobar an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

Glover Avenue

While in traffic on westbound Glover Avenue at about 12:23 pm on May 26, motorist Laura Rothenhausen, 48, of 1 Papoose Hill Road, who was driving a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, struck the rear end of a 2014 Nissan Murano SUV driven by Kenneth Cook, 53, of 19 Eden Hill Road, according to police.

There were no injuries. Rothenhausen received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Exit 11

At about 10 pm on May 26, motorist Prabha Makayee, 50, of 62 Charter Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Murano SUV, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of Interstate 84's Exit 11 off-ramp and was waiting to turn right on red onto Wasserman Way, when the Nissan was struck from behind by motorist Laura Sullivan, 18, of 5 Morgan Drive, who was driving a 2004 Volvo S-80 sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Sullivan received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.

Hawleyville Incident

Police responded about 2 am on May 27 to a building at 31 Hawleyville Road following a report of suspicious activity. The structure there holds a business known as Sound, A Center for Music, Creative Arts & Mindfulness.

Police said they found a broken exterior door, but no one on the premises.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer William Crone at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road about 9:51 am on May 27.

The accident involved motorist Martha Macknell, 47, of 30 Juniper Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV, and motorist Kane Granda, 18, of Seymour, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Macknell received a verbal warning for making a restricted turn, police said. Granda received a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license, police said.

Church Hill Road

At about 2:28 pm on May 27, motorist Leah Nashel, 17, of 26 Lake Road, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Outback, was attempting to exit a parking lot at 34 Church Hill Road, as motorist John Trentacosta, 64, of 34 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 2016 Cadillac CT-6 sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided, There were no injuries. Police said Nashel received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Hanover DUI

Police report that at about 7 pm on May 27, they spotted motorist Matthew Gallagher, 54, of Brookfield driving at high speed near 133 Hanover Road.

Police said that after stopping Gallagher, they investigated and then charged him with driving under the influence. After processing the case, police released Gallagher on $500 bail for a June 7 court appearance to answer the charge.

Botsford Collision

Police said motorist Taavon Tatum, 31, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord southward on South Main Street, north of Swamp Road, about 10:10 pm on May 27, told them that some deer ran onto the road, so he swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but then entered a driveway at 352 South Main Street and struck a concrete barrier.

There were no injuries. Police said Tatum received an infraction for driving without a license.

I-84 DUI

State police report they spotted motorist Ricky Lee Ho, 56, of Danbury driving a Honda Pilot SUV erratically on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, about 7:46 pm on May 28, so they stopped him to investigate at the end of the Exit 10 off-ramp.

State police said they charged Ho with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, risk of injury to a child and failure to secure a child in a safety seat.

State police release Ho on $10,000 nonsurety bail for a June 6 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Burglar Alarm, Forced Entry

Police report that at about 10:15 am on May 29, they received a burglar alarm from Berkshire Hearth & Home, LLC, at 121 Mt Pleasant Road.

Police said they went there and learned that someone had made a forced entry into the building. A white sedan had been seen parked in the parking lot there before the alarm occurred, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Arrest

Police said they received a report about 11 am on May 29 that a motorist was driving erratically on South Main Street, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question parked in front of a residential property on Greenbriar Lane, which extends from South Main Street.

Police said they charged motorist Matthew Politi, 23, of Easton, with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. After processing, police released Politi on $500 bail for a June 14 court appearance.

 

Yoga Burglary/Larceny

Police said they are investigating a burglary/larceny at Yoga Dimensions, a yoga studio at 87 South Main Street.

The forced-entry burglary occurred sometime between 4:30 pm on May 29, and 7 am on May 31, police said. The intruder stole a small amount of cash from the premises, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Property Damage

Police report they responded to a house at 32 Greenbriar Lane at about 7 pm on May 29 after receiving a report that vandalism had occurred there.

After investigating, police said they charged Robert Beres, 68, of that address, with second-degree criminal mischief and with second-degree criminal damage of a landlord's property.

Police said they released Beres on $500 bail for a June 9 court appearance.

Sugar Street Crash

Motorist Neal Deluca, 37, of Wolcott was driving a 2013 Hyundai Accent auto eastward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Boggs Hill Road, about 1:44 pm on May 30, when he swerved to the right and struck some guardcabling, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Deluca for making a restricted turn.
