FD Ladies Auxiliary Conducting Quilt, Gas Card & Healthy Basket Raffle

The Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Company Ladies Auxiliary is running a raffle, with the top prize being a “Cottage Garden” quilt created by the local group The Sew Together Gals. Members of the auxiliary will be selling tickets in Sandy Hook Center on Saturday, June 4. Tickets are $1 each.

The queen-size quilt is of heirloom quality, and was done with all cotton fabrics. It took the group of six women — daughter and mother Emily and Frances Ashbolt, Betty Doty, daughter and mother Lori and Peg Jacques, and Marian Wood — more than 13 months to complete, accounting for more than 600 hours of work. Designed by Peg Jacques, the quilt is being displayed at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, where tickets can also be purchased until June 8.

The Sew Together Gals have done fundraising for other local groups in recent years, including quilts for Kevin’s Community Center, Friends of C.H. Booth Library and Newtown Historical Society, among others.

Two additional prizes are also being offered. Second place is a $200 Mobil gift card, and third place is a healthy snack basket donated by Tamara Doherty of Wishing Well Gift Shop in Sandy Hook.

Winners will be selected during Sandy Hook LobsterFest, which runs Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11. The drawing will be done on Saturday at 9 pm, and winners do not need to be present.

Proceeds from the raffle will help the ladies auxiliary purchase water for the Sandy Hook fire company they support, as well as allow the women to make improvements around the firehouse.
