Authors Honor 12/14 Victim, Animal Advocate With Online Auction
PARK CITY, UTAH – A former librarian has organized and launched an online auction in the memory of one of the 12/14 victims.
Bobbie Pyron’s appeal to more than 30 authors — many who penned award-winning and New York Times best sellers — was answered as they joined to autograph their works in honor of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a little girl with a dream to provide a sanctuary for homeless animals.
In the months since the shooting, Catherine’s parents and The Animal Center in Newtown have set up a fund to raise money for the Catherine Violet Hubbard Sanctuary.
After reading about Catherine’s dream, author Ms Pyron decided to do something to help raise money for Catherine’s sanctuary.
“I just wanted something good to come out of this heartbreaking tragedy,” she said in a release.
So she contacted a number of authors, most who write for children, and asked if they would donate signed copies of their book to be auctioned off online as a fundraiser for Catherine’s sanctuary.
“I was overwhelmed and humbled by the enthusiastic response,” she said. “Many of these authors are Newbery Award winners, National Book Award recipients, and New York Times best selling authors.
She said everyone who responded was touched by Catherine’s goal and “wanted to be a part of helping her dream come true.”
Launching today, June 3, and through June 16, Ms Pyron is posting signed copies of books that can be bid on. Interested bidders can go to www.bobbiepyron.com/auction to peruse the autographed selections, as well as viewing details on how the auction works.
A group of new books will be offered for auction each day, so bidders are encouraged to return to see daily updates.
The last group of books will be posted on June 14. On June 15, MS Pyron will post a wrap up of the highest bids on each book. Bidding will close at midnight, June 16.
Some of the signed books to be auctioned include Sarah, Plain and Tall (Newbery winner), A Dog’s Purpose (NYT best seller), Wonder (NYT best seller), Moon Over Manifest (Newbery winner), Mockingbird (National Book Award winner), Divergent (NYT best seller), and books by Newbery award winners Sharon Creech, Cynthia Lord and Ann M Martin.
“I love collecting books I’ve had signed by authors,” Pyron said. “But these books would also make great gifts for to the book lovers, or donations to your local school or public library.”
