An Outrageous Comparison

To the Editor:

I attended to the Charter Revision Commission’s public hearing last Wednesday night. I typically do not find the time to make such events, due to having a newborn baby. He was in attendance too.

A lot of great things were said, and the work of the commission should be commended. Their presentation was a great overview, and concise enough for the audience to better understand the recommended realignment of how town government works. Efficiency and accountability was evident in their changes. Lord knows Newtown needs that.

But, what left me the most disgusted was the outrageous comparisons made by Melissa Pilchard. She has the audacity to describe the empowering of a first selectman with a veto to that of creating Adolph Hitler. A dictator that killed some six million people, to that of a model of governing that the people of this country had cherished enough to apply to the federal and state levels. And to carry this forward to a town level seems so threatening to her. If their ever was a message in this week’s Memorial Day celebrations, it was that our system of governing is the best representation of the people’s will yet in human history, and that every fallen or living vet should be seen as our heroes.

It is hard to believe that the good people of Dodgingtown (District 1) continue to reelect such a mean spirited, misguided, and appallingly rude and off-base person to represent them. Shame on you for keeping such a problem within our present Legislative Council.
