The 30th Annual Rooster Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 5, beginning at Reed Intermediate School. Preregistration is $12 and $15 the day of the race. Sign up today and enjoy this wonderful event. All proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association. The race will begin and end at Reed. Entry forms and maps are available at the Parks and Recreation Office. Registration will end at 8:00 am on the day of the race.

There is still room in Summer Day Camp. A wonderful summer day camp experience awaits your child. Swimming lessons, arts and crafts, games, field trips and socialization are just a sampling of the good times to be had. Day Camp fees are $160 for one two-week session, $300 for two two-week sessions and $430 for three two-week sessions.

The Middle School Camp promises to be an exciting summer experience, filled with great trips, a variety of sports, games, arts and crafts and swimming. The camp will run from 9 am to 3 pm. The fee for the camp (which includes all trips) is $475 for all three weeks.

The Newtown Torpedoes age group swim team is gearing up for another fun summer, competing in the State Line Swim League. The fee is only $80 for the first child, $70 for the second child and $65 for each additional child. The program runs for six weeks, beginning on June 28.

Youth Golf Lessons will begin on Thursday, June 24, at the Newtown Country Club. Learn the fundamentals of golf. Classes incorporate lots of games, contests, teaching aids and prizes to create a fun and relaxed learning enviroment for your young golfer. Equipment will be provided for students that do not have any golf equipment. This program is for ages seven to 12 years old and meets 9 to 9:45 am on Thursdays through July 29. Fee is $82 per child.

Junior and Adult Golf Lessons will be held July through September at Golf Quest in Brookfield. Classes for players ages 8 to 15 will run from 4:30 to 5:30 pm while classes for players ages 16 and over will run from 6 to 7 pm. Each lesson will concentrate on a different aspect of the game. Fee is $97. For class dates please check out our website at www.newtown-ct.gov.

The Golf Quest Short Game School will include work with pitch shots (full, partial, lob or flop shots, uneven lies) and more. Classes will run on weekends June through September. Fee is $156.

New this year is our Rowing Program on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13. The workshop, for ages 14 to adult, is run by GMS Rowing Center in New Milford. Fee is $60 per person. All equpment is provided.

Tennis Camp is entering its second season this summer under the direction of Greg Sansonetti and Dave Kardas, along with head pro Gustavo Raes. Classes will focus on proper techniques for forehands, serves and volleys. Each session runs for two weeks: Session I from June 28 through July 9; Session II from July 12 through July 23; Sesssion III from July 26 through August 6; and Session IV from August 9 through August 20. Classes for Tiny Tots (ages 4 to 7) will be held from 10 to 10:30 am and cost $65; classes for beginners (grades 2 to 4) will run from 10:30 to 11:30 am and cost $80; classes for beginners (grades 5 to 9) will from from 11:30 am to 1 pm and cost $85; and classes for Intermediate and Advanced will run from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and cost $100.
