Newtown Scholar Scores High

At University Of Connecticut

Steven Hubina, son of Paul and Lori Hubina, thanked Newtown Rotary for the generous scholarship he received through the Newtown Scholarship Association last spring during the Rotary’s latest meeting last month.

“I have just completed my first year at the University of Connecticut as a student of business,” he said.

He plans to major in finance.

In his first semester at UConn, Steven had a 3.85 grade average. He earned a perfect 4.0 his second semester. In addition to attending school fulltime, Steven worked in the university’s accounting office. “I was kept busy with my studies and my job, but I was still able to enjoy myself and take in college life,” he said.

He said his academic accomplishments were largely due to “all the support” he has continually received from his family and his community.

“Without your support, I don’t know how hard I would have pushed myself this year,” he said. “It helps so much to have such great support not only from my family but from my community! Newtown Rotary has given me one more leg of support to lean on and I am thankful.”

He commended Newtown Rotary as “an excellent piece” of the Newtown community.
