Kendall Reed was the individual champion for the second year in a row as Newtown High School’s girls’ golf team finished third in the South-West Conference Championship match, at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course, on May 31.

Reed shot an 87 to lead all golfers. Masuk of Monroe, with a team score of 391, was first, and Immaculate of Danbury had a 405 to edge Newtown with a score of 406.

Aidan Herbstman carded a 103, Maddy Watson 106, Madison McGoldrick 110, and Norah Kolb 111 for the Nighthawks.

“Extremely proud of Kendall. She has worked so hard and put in so much time. Back-to-back SWC individual champion is a tremendous accomplishment,” Coach Jeremy O’Connell said. “Hopefully the younger kids can see what kind of dedication it takes to be successful in golf. I am looking forward to the future with this program.”

Newtown will compete in the Division I State Championship Monday, June 6, at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.
