A piece of art created by Newtown High School student Leah Rojas was announced as earning fourth place in the recent Congressional Art Show.

As announced in the May 20 “Artwork By Newtown High School Students Included In Regional Art Shows,” article in The Newtown Bee, some Newtown High School students had art recently chosen for the May 7-22 Congressional Art Show at Mattatuck Museum. A full list of those pieces is available with the story online.

Leah’s piece, “The Bigs,” was selected for fourth place, honorable mention.

According to a description for the show, each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by Members of the US House of Representatives in collaboration with the Congressional Institute. The competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in the hosting Congressional District. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes welcomed participation by high school students who attend schools in or live in Connecticut’s Fifth Congressional District.

Leah completed “The Bigs” in NHS art teacher Carol Skolas’s class. Since Leah’s piece earned fourth place, it will be put on display in Congresswoman Haye’s District office.
