Artist’s Reception June 5—

Confident Paintings By Kathy Grose At The Blue Z

Newtown resident and artist Kathy Grose will be the next artist featured with an exhibition of artwork at The Blue Z Coffeehouse on South Main Street.

In 2005 at the urging of a friend, Ms Grose began painting every week, mostly watercolor veil paintings, but also oil pastel and colored pencil drawings. This was after a successful career designing corporate interiors in the New York metropolitan area while painting avocationally for many years. The result was the beginning of an artist’s journey that expanded to acrylic abstract paintings ranging in size from 9 by 12 inches to those as large as 36 by 48 inches. As the volume of her work grew, so did the amount of time Ms Grose happily devoted to her painting.

Various painting styles and larger canvases, combined with vibrant expressive color, have transformed Ms Grose into the artist she is today: Her more recent artwork bears the confident brush strokes of the joyful artist she has become.

Ms Grose describes her work as whimsical and abstract. Each painting, she says, evokes strong feelings and speaks to the viewer in different ways. In some instances, paintings are combined with poems that elu-cidate and deepen the painting’s experience.

Although her body of work remains abstract, one can see clear themes: a profound love of nature and an intense illumination of the soul’s discovery.

Kathy’s journey as an artist now includes sharing the joy she has found in artistic expression, by guiding others to explore their own creative souls.

Ms Grose, who lives in Newtown with her husband and two children, received a degree in interior design at Fashion Institute of Technology, with formal artistic training from The Blue Mountain School for the Arts in the Adirondacks, and The Silvermine School in New Canaan.

The abstract acrylic paintings on view at The Blue Z bear the confident brush strokes of the joyful artist she has become.

The public is invited to meet Ms Grose and view the collection on Friday, June 5, from 7 to 9 pm. The Blue Z is at 127 Main Street South; call 364-1003 for details.
