Girls

U6

Wildcats 4, Cheetahs 1: The Wildcats’ offense was led by Colleen Phaneuf with 2 goals and Kaley Meisenheimer and Shauna Tucker, each of whom scored a goal. Madeline Larson played tough defense on the field and in the goal. Rylee Harrell and Sarah Payne played well on offense and defense. The Cheetahs remained competitive even though they were without Zoe Bogan and Casey Dunn, and had Mary Celentano playing with a broken arm.  Mary Sortino played well, Jane Shearin scored, and Bella DeLorenzo and Zoe Waller added to the Cheetahs’ offensive attack. Julian Kanaan, Amanda Conrad and Hannah Ruhs combined to mount a strong defense, led by Olivia Oltran who was strong in goal.

U8

Monkees 2, Wolverines 2: Emma Boland and Sophia Andrew scored for the Monkees. Katelyn Kenchcliffe and Brooke Antous played dominant offense and Abbey Clark was solid in goal. For the Wolverines, Mary Hufziger scored and were strong at center and in the midfield. Kristina Goeree was solid in goal, Gabrielle Resiert helped at striker and Emma DaSilva provided solid defense.

Thundering Jaguars 1, Lightning 0: Bella Jimenez scored the lone goal for the T-Jags, while Audrey Sedensky played great defense, and Emma Stierle and Eirenie Athanasoulis had good overall games. Jenna Gonski, Haley Harkins, Danielle Otero and Sarah Tressler all played well for the Lightning.

U11

Old Greenwich 3, Comets 2 (State Cup game): The Comets bowed out of the state tournament with style as they managed 2 goals in the second half after facing a 3-0 deficit going into halftime. In addition to playing strongly as a team in the second half, Newtown received goals from Brenna Kelly, with one of her trademark long range shots, and Madeline Sieber, on a penalty kick awarded for a takedown in the box on Casey Harkins. Portia Baudisch provided the assist as she made a nice centering pass. Solid goalkeeping was handled by Emily Charash and Katie Mossbarger.

Comets 3, Fairfield 1: Brenna Kelly assisted on all three goals as the Comets secured the win. Casey Harkins, Kimberly Brello and Alana Murray scored and Veronica Moyer also assisted on one of the tallies when she initiated the play by centering the ball to Kelly. Christina DeBartolomeo had a strong showing on defense and Alyssa Ruefenacht made a difficult save in goal.

U12

Lightning 5, Newington 0 (State Cup game): Emily Riley had a strong game on offense, scoring two goals for the Lightning. Sarah Lynch also had two, including one off a corner by Kailee Dunnigan, and Siena Cicarreli rounded out the scoring with one. Dale Shearin provided good support in the midfield and Kate Fallon and Amy Martinelli tended goal for the shutout. The U12 girls advanced to the State Cup semifinals and will face Trumbull this weekend in Newtown.

Lightning 6, Westport 2: Although the first period ended in a 1-1 tie, the Lightning pulled ahead in the second half and never looked back. Sarah Lynch had a season-high of four goals and Kailee Dunnigan and Emily Riley each scored one. Amy Martinelli and Cassie Fischer were tough in the midfield and were backed up with good defensive play by Helene Sorensen and Michelle Zarifis. Kate Fallon, Siena Cicarelli and Fischer played well in the nets for the Lightning.

U14

Twisters 7, Tidal Waves 3: For the Twisters, Kerry Scallon had four goals, and Lauren Sarna, Caitlin Filiato and Kat Jennings all scored. Persistent defense by Anita Luxkaranayagam with solid midfield performance by Tess Stofka and Aspen Kraushaar helped the Twisters to the win. For the Tidal Waves, Emily Grimes had two goals and Meghan Grimes had a goal and an assist. Alexis Rodriguez and Stephanie Devaney had great all around play and Renee Henriques was strong on defense.

Team Two 4, Smiters 0: Team Two broke open a scoreless tie with four second-half goals from Samantha Dion, Katie Clark, Daniella Genovese and Gabriella Kalinowski. Emily Clark and Baily Smith also had excellent games. For the Smiters, Carly Grossano, Maddie Aug, Michaela Guinee, Emily Davis, Emma Burns and Amanda Martinez had great games.

New Cannan 4, Newtown Flash 0: Bianca Solano and Zoe Eggleson played well on offense. Meghan Harkins, Abby Blakeman, Kyra Murray and Emily Brisson were strong on defense.

Boys

U6

Fireballs 1, Lightning Thunder 3: Roni Bajraliu was tremendous on defense. Sawyer Findley braved the nets for the Fireballs and was tireless in goal. Hunter Kirkman scored the lone goal for the Fireballs off an assist by Michael Haddick. Jack Stanton and Chris Shaker combined to score 3 goals to lead the LightningThunder. Grant Horn and Tristan Andrew were all over the field leading a team effort on defense.

U13

Newtown Beasts 5, Stamford 1: The Beasts’ offense was powered by Jonah Muniz with 2 goals and a goal each by Andrew Martinez, Matt Mossbarger and Stefan Dullinger. Doug Miller, Grant Ricketts, Jonathan Schwartz and Jordan Sock applied offensive pressure throughout the game. Wesley Morlock, Connor Gallagher, Harry Solaski, Garrison Buzzanca, Matt Baldino and Austin Raftery were strong on defense. 

Italian Stallions 3, Strikerz 0: For the Italian Stallions, Evan Swain scored 2 goals with Taylor Rutter adding a goal to lead the offense. Will Carr and Anders Svensen played well on defense with a great overall game by Patrick Haggerty. For the Strikerz, Matt Barra and Nick Shannon kept up the offensive pressure.  Nick Klein and Zack Weiland played great at midfield and Austin Isola anchored the defense.
