Stony Hill District Businesses BOOMING!!

As many people start shopping locally to save time and gas they are realizing the abundance of stores and services that are available in their own back yard. The Stony Hill District on Route 6 between Exits 9 to 8 off I-84 is joining together to remind everyone of that. Value and convenience is important to today’s shoppers and the business owners know that.

Madeline Bunt, assistant vice president and branch manager of Union Savings Bank of Bethel, on the Stony Hill Four Corners (SH4C), has been the pillar of this group. “I am proud to say Union Savings Bank has been instrumental in supporting the Stony Hill District Community. With the new additions of Target, The Big Y World Class Market and Starbucks, and several restaurants, Route 6 has really grown and continues to grow.”

Lisa Whitmore of UK Gourmet, on the Newtown side of Route 6, has also been involved in trying to get the Newtown side to swing into action. “We can make a bigger impact as a group. I know that we can make a difference together in getting the word out and putting together great events like our upcoming sidewalk sale, which is turning out to be spectacular. We are erasing the town border and working together.”

On Saturday, June 13, SH4C will hold its second sidewalk sale and Amber Alert. The merchants that line this road have created many fun-filled events. Dance etc will be performing at several of the plazas, there will be a DJ and a face painting artist. Many businesses will have giveaways and sales, but it will be much more than that.

Union Savings Bank and Quality Gem will again be co-sponsoring an Amber Alert Registration Saturday from 10 to 3 at the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department. According to Ms Bunt, “We are thrilled with the Union Savings Bank and Quality Gem partnership. Both businesses do whatever they can to support the community; we love to give back.”

The Taunton Plaza at 147 Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown is busy preparing for the sidewalk event. Tony Caraluzzi, owner of Taunton Wine & Liquor, will be doing a wine tasting on Saturday from noon to 5. He said he has never had such wonderful neighbors. Toni Ribeiro, owner of Klickers Hair Studio located in the plaza, is very enthusiastic about the community effort. “Klickers has been open for over 20 years and we are excited to be a part of this event, which is the first of it’s kind for us.” Toni will be celebrating her two-year anniversary of taking over the salon. Along with her neighbor in the plaza, Lisa Whitmore from UK Gourmet, they will have a table set up with raffles, free giveaways, and great sales.

Additionally, the Stony Hill Four Corners Association has a team in the Relay For Life at Bethel High School. Lisa Whitmore of UK Gourmet and Stacy Ashby, assistant branch manager of Union Savings Bank, are co-captains. SH4C is a group of people who walk the talk about community involvement.

Many more events are planned for this sidewalk sale. Check the website www.StonyHillFourCorners.com for event listings and for more information on the shops in this area. Or contact Lisa Whitmore at StonyHillFourCorners@gmail.com or call 426-9666.
