The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Anda Styler, demonstrating painting a landscape in acrylics, on Wednesday, June 12, at 7:30 pm. The program is open to the public, free of charge. It will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

Her subject will be a Southwest subject as she has just returned from Santa Fe, N.M.

Just last month Ms Styler, a Sherman resident, made the front cover of Dan’s Papers, a magazine in Southampton, N.Y. The newspaper featured her in an article written by Marion Walberg Wiess, in connection with having been accepted into the Chrysalis Gallery of Fine Art in Southampton.

Ms Styler’s studio, located in New Milford, will be part of an Open Studio Tour, June 22-23, by Northwest Arts Council. Also she has a show opening July 6 in Litchfield.

Her work is well received because she connects to the viewer with mood and atmosphere. She captures the light in a landscape and using reality, bold color and imagination brings her picture to life.

Ms Styler received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Parsons. She has won numerous awards for her work.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available from Ruth Newquist; telephone 203-426-6654.

“Long Shadows” is an 18 by 24-inch landscape done in acrylics by Anda Styler. Ms Styler will offer a demonstration on creating a similar scene — focusing on the New Mexican color palette — for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown this month.
