William J. “Red” Sanderson, 80, of Bridgeport, beloved husband for 55 years to Minnie Rua Sanderson, died June 4, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born November 21, 1932, in Hartford, to Sarah (Koenig) and James Sanderson.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Bill worked many years as a plumber and was a member of Local Union 777 Plumbers & Pipefitters. He was a life member of VFW Post 7788 in Devon and American Legion Post 196 in Milford.

In addition to his wife, his loving daughters Mary Imperioli, and her husband Flavio, of Sandy Hook and Paula Sefcik, and her husband Dan, of Milford; his six cherished grandchildren; his sisters Anna Parsons and Dorothy Avery; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr Sanderson. In addition to his parents, his brother, James, predeceased him.

Calling hours are Sunday, June 9, from 1 to 4 pm, at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 North Broad Street, Milford. A funeral home prayer service will take place Monday, June 10, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford, with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport CT 06606.
