Dolores Miller

Dolores Joan (Dowd) Miller, age 91, of Oxford, preceded in death by her devoted husband George John Miller, entered eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 5, at Pomperaug Woods Retirement Home.

Dolores will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., on November 29, 1933, the loving daughter of Patrick and Ida (Doran) Dowd. Dolores was a devout Catholic and communicant of St Thomas the Apostle Church of Oxford. She attended Peekskill High School and SUNY Oneonta, and worked at Readers Digest, served as a librarian in numerous schools and as the office administrator at Bob Tendler Real Estate in Newtown. She enjoyed traveling and gatherings with friends and family. Dolores will be sadly missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts.

Her loving family includes her caring sons Timothy G. Miller (Nancy) of Oxford, Mark G. Miller (Mary) of Rye, N.Y., and Jeffrey G. Miller (Susan) of Marco Island, Fla.; her brother James Dowd (Lynn); ten cherished grandchildren including Alexander Miller (Erin), Douglas Miller (Cayla), Deidre Greenberg (Will), Andrew Miller, Tyler Miller (Maggie), Katherine Joan Miller, James Miller (Marika), Lindsey Tumbush (Michael), Robert Miller and Samantha Hunter (Charles); seven great-grandchildren including Keira Miller, Liam Miller, George Tumbush, Finn Hunter, Rose Hunter, John Greenberg, and Jackson Miller; plus dozens of nieces and nephews.

Dolores was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Martin Dowd, and sisters Margaret Marcoux, Lucy Fitzgerald, and Kathleen Grua.

Friends and relatives may call to-Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, on Tuesday, June 10, from 5 until 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 11, at 11 am, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Interment will be in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt, N.Y., on June 11 at approximately 1:30 pm.
