Newtown High School hosted two awards nights to celebrate its students and announce students who have earned awards and scholarships.Senior Awards Underclassmen Awards

Seniors were honored during the evening of Wednesday, June 1, and underclassmen were celebrated the evening of Thursday, June 2.

"Tonight is a very special culmination of four years, actually 13 years," said NHS Principal Lorrie Rodrigue on Wednesday.

She welcomed all in attendance and said the seniors who would be honored that evening have demonstrated the ability to set goals and they have persevered.

"We are so proud of each of our seniors," said Dr Rodrigue.

Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, said a visit he made earlier in the day to the high school's nurtury program made him reflect on his own children's growth. As he stood at the podium before the gathered seniors, he noted how time passes.

All of the students seated before him in the high school's gymnasium, he said, are individually, "recognized in a class of great class."

The awards and scholarships were introduced and announced by representatives of the families or groups offering them.
