To The Editor:

As citizens of Newtown, we often overlook the invaluable service provided by our commissions.

Commissioners are remarkable individuals who selflessly dedicate themselves to serving the community, sacrificing precious family time.

I would like to take a moment to recognize the Planning and Zoning Commission for the recent unanimous decision rendered on June 5th, 2025. The Commissioner's sound judgment denied a developer's petition to convert a BPO, Business and Professional Office Zone to an M4 industrial Zone, which included an exception to build a two-story self-service facility adjacent to Liberty at Newtown, an elderly housing community zoned HE10.

The Commissioners' decision demonstrates their commitment to upholding the purpose and intent of our zoning regulations, ensuring compatibility between zones, and aligning with the Town's Plan of Economic Development. On behalf of Liberty at Newtown, I express our deepest gratitude for the Commissioners' correct and sound decision, which protected our quality of life and prevented potentially disastrous effects associated with industrial zones and self-service facility safety issues.

Thank you, Commissioners, for your invaluable service. We commend you for your dedication to our community and for making decisions that prioritize the well-being of Newtown's residents.
