Football Players Spring Into Game Action With Annual Scrimmage
Muggy conditions and a sparse crowd at Blue & Gold Stadium on June 13 were indicators that football season is still a long way off. But the annual Blue & Gold Game, an intrasquad Newtown High School football scrimmage, served as a reminder that the fall kickoff will be here soon enough.
The Nighthawks concluded a two-week spring workout program with a friendly battle as coaches stayed on the field to give direction. Although the final score doesn’t really matter, for what it’s worth the Blue squad prevailed 46-19. Nick Lotrecciano had two interceptions, one of which he returned 47 yards for a touchdown, and also ran for a 40 yard score in the win. Troy Frangione had two TD catches, one from 45 yards out, Devin Luzietti had a long touchdown reception, Jaret DeVellis ran for a 25-yard score, and Jared Pearson also ran for a TD.
For the Gold squad, Hunter Cobbs had a 43 yard run into the paint, Matt Bucci had a 57 yard scoring reception, and Nick Rubino added a short TD rush.
